Critique of Pure Reason, Immanuel Kant's monumental philosophical treatise, seeks to determine the limits and scope of metaphysics. Though it received little attention when it was first published, the Critique of Pure Reason eventually drew fire from both empiricist and rationalist critics, and became a source of substantial controversy before becoming one of the most enduringly influential works of Western philosophy. The book is now considered to be the culmination of several centuries of early modern philosophy and the inauguration of modern philosophy.
